UPSC Topper 2020 – Ria Dabi, Shubham Kumar made their families proud


UPSC has released the final results for the 2020 Civil Services Examination. This time Riya Dabi, the younger sister of 2016 UPSC topper Tina Dabi, has secured All India Rank 15 in the Civil Services Examination. IAS Tina Dabi has also congratulated her younger sister on this occasion through Twitter. Riya has become one of the youngest candidates to clear UPSC. She has cleared the exam at the age of 23.

Shubham Kumar made his district as well as his state proud by topping the most coveted Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, 2020. A B.Tech in civil engineering from IIT Bombay, this exam was Subham’s third attempt. In 2019 he had secured 268th rank.

Expressing happiness over the result, Riya said that she gets inspiration from her mother. She wanted both the daughters to become IAS officers. Riya is very happy to be in the top 15. He has achieved this success in his first attempt at the age of just 23.

Riya told that she is fond of painting and always paints to relax herself. She does traditional painting which helped her a lot to stay focused in UPSC preparation.

Riya’s mother Himani Dabi said that today she is feeling very proud, I have brought up daughters more than sons, I had given this choice to both my daughters and both of them have increased their value.

Riya’s father Jaswant Dabi said on the occasion that he is proud of the daughter’s success. Tina is celebrating in Rajasthan while the rest of the family is celebrating at home along with Riya.

Riya has graduated in Political Science from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College in 2019. His sister Tina Dabi is also a graduate from Delhi University. Riya’s parents are both bureaucrats. Riya says that elder sister (Tina) will always be her guide.

Son of Devanad Singh and Punam Devi of Kumhari village under Kadwa, one of the worst floods affected blocks of Bihar, Shubham had started his primary education in his native village Kumhari and later got admitted at Vidya Vihar Residential School, Parora in Purnia and cleared his tenth in 2012.

Later he went to Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro, in Jharkhand and did his XII in 2014. He cleared IIT with 219th rank and got admission in IIT Bombay and was passed in B.Tech with flying colors.

He chose anthropology as his optional subject in the UPSC exam.
“His aim was to clear IAS from the very beginning and hence he never gave up and even after 290th rank he continued to prepare and today he made all of us proud,” Shubham’s father who works in Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank said adding, “I got the news through my son who called me from Delhi to inform about the result.”

Talking to PTI, Subham said his dream to become an IAS officer and to serve the underprivileged has been realized. “Development of villages, employment generation, and poverty alleviation in rural areas of the country would be his focus areas,” said Kumar, aged 24 years, who topped the civil services examination in his third attempt.

Younger of the two siblings, his elder sister work as a scientist in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). “My father used to motivate me a lot and helped me in maintaining a positive attitude that helped me in clearing the exam,” said Kumar, adding that his father works as a bank manager in Bihar.
