NEET-PG Postpone 2022 – Medical Students Running Social Media Campaign
Several medical students are running a social media campaign to postpone NEET-PG 2022. Several groups have written to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, requesting that the NEET PG exams be postponed till 2022 due to a delay in the counselling process. Last month, the Supreme Court denied a request to extend the internship deadline for NEET-PG 2022 from July 31 to August 31, claiming that it would disturb the academic calendar. Many students requested an extension to the internship deadline, claiming that they were unable to complete the internship because they were summoned to participate in COVID-19 activities. Following an earlier order by the Court to consider student representation, the Centre extended the original deadline of March 31 to July 31.
Due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, NEET-PG 2021 was repeatedly postponed. The PG test for 2021, which was originally scheduled for April 2021, was only held on September 11, 2021. Due to a litigation pending in the Supreme Court contesting the application of EWS-OBC reservation in the All India Quota, NEET-PG counselling has been postponed. The Supreme Court authorised the counselling procedure to begin in the first week of January 2022, based on the existing criteria for EWS-OBC reservation in AIQ. Several lawsuits were also brought against the counselling process.
Due to irregularities in the adding of 146 more seats, the Court cancelled the mop-up round conducted on March 31 and ordered the holding of a special round for the newly added seats. Some cases challenging the State Quota counselling process are also pending in the High Courts.
