National Education Day 2021: Every year 11 November is celebrated as National Education Day since 2008. Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on 5th September, then the question arises that what is the need to celebrate National Education Day on 11th November. Actually, this day is dedicated to honoring the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad had a very talented mind. After independence, he became the first Union Health Minister of the country. The birthday of Abul Kalam Azad is celebrated as National Education Day 2021 in the country. He served as the Minister of Education in independent India from 1947 to 1958.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was an educationist, he was a journalist and also a freedom fighter and politician. He played an important role in improving the education infrastructure in the country. Kamalam used to say, our dreams turn into thoughts and the result of thoughts comes out in the form of actions. Maulana Abul Kalam dreamed of improving the education infrastructure in the country and always tried to fulfill it.

Keeping in mind his rich dedication to education, the Ministry of Human Resource and Development on 11 November 2008 decided to celebrate his birthday as National Education Day. Kalam had said that education is the most important element for the development and prosperity of any country. During his tenure as the Education Minister, the foundations of many important educational institutions were laid in the country. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur), School of Planning and Architecture, formerly Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are prominent among some such institutes.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born in the year 1888 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He always emphasized that students should be creative and their way of thinking should be completely different. He said that academicians should inculcate the capacity of questioning, creativity, and entrepreneurship, as well as moral leadership among the students and themselves, should be role models for them.

Kalam was a strong supporter of women’s education. He always emphasized that women’s empowerment is a necessary and important condition for the development of the nation. He believed that society could be stable only by the empowerment of women. In the year 1949, in the Constituent Assembly, she raised the issue of women’s education. He did many other works in the field of education, his work is remembered even today.
