History of World Hindi Day

World Hindi Day is celebrated every year on January. Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh declared World Hindi Day in the year 2006 in the UPA government. World Hindi Day is celebrated in Indian embassies around the world. The first Hindi Day was celebrated by the Indian Embassy in Norway. Later the second and third Hindi Divas were organized under the aegis of Indian Norway Information and Cultural Forum under the chairmanship of writer Suresh Chandra Shukla.

The first Hindi Divas conference was organized on 10 January 1975 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The purpose of this conference was to spread Hindi throughout the world. 122 delegates from 30 countries attended the conference.
