National Girl Child Day 2022: Today is National Girl Child Day, know its importance and history

National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India on this day i.e. 24 January. It was started in the year 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. 24 January was chosen to celebrate Girl Child Day because it was on this day in 1966 that Indira Gandhi was sworn in as the first woman Prime Minister of India. Various programs are organized across the country on this day, which include awareness programs including rescue of girls, making them healthy and safe environment.

The purpose of celebrating this day is to make the girl child aware of their rights in the society. Last year in 2021 the theme of Girl Child Day was 'Digital Generation, Our Generation'. At the same time, in 2020, the theme 'My voice, our common future' was kept. Although the theme of 2022 has not been announced yet.

Objective of National Girl Child Day

The Government of India had started National Girl Child Day to bring equality in the society. The purpose of this campaign is to make girls aware and to tell that women have equal contribution in building the society. People from all walks of life have been included in this and they were made aware that girls should also have the right to take decisions. Apart from this, the purpose of celebrating this day is to create awareness about gender inequality and ensure that every girl gets human rights.

Why is National Girl Child Day celebrated?

National Girl Child Day is celebrated to improve the status of girls in the society. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make the girl child aware of their rights and to increase awareness among the people about the importance of girls' education and their health and nutrition. Even today, girls have to face inequality and gender discrimination in the country, in such a situation, National Girl Child Day is celebrated to change the thinking of people and make them aware.
